How KOKAI was born.
A small group of educators and parents dreamed of a school where
children could learn with joy, curiosity, and a deep connection to
nature.
KOKAI, meaning firefly in Mayan, became a symbol of light and
wisdom — guiding children to grow with empathy and purpose.
The Early Years
KOKAI began as a nurturing community focused on the whole child —
fostering creativity, mindfulness, and emotional well-being through
art, movement, and outdoor exploration.
These roots built the foundation for a caring, inclusive learning
environment.
Evolving in Balance
As KOKAI grew, its vision expanded. The school embraced balance — blending creativity and wellness with academic strength. Guided by international frameworks (EYFS, CCSS, NGSS, SEP, Jolly Phonics), KOKAI refined its philosophy and identity, deepening its ties to nature, culture, and community.
